Built in Nashville aims to be a new outlet for musical artists

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WTVF) – Nashville is known as the “Country Music Capital of the World,” but there’s more to Music City than just country.

“Growing up here you know it’s not and you know people here don’t just like that genre,” said Haynes Young, Founder of Built in Nashville.

Built in Nashville is a new media company that originally started with a playlist featuring local independent artists. Young said it was to promote artists who weren’t just country.

“It’s really not about hating anything else. It’s more about spreading love in areas that need more love. So it’s rap, R&B and just to give people voices that don’t have voices here, ”Young said.

This led to the creation of videos titled “Live on Music Row” filmed inside Jay’s Place studio. Young said the videos were originally a marketing pitch and the artists paid $ 50 for studio time.

He mentioned that they were working on getting sponsors.

“There’s a lot of this click-and-drop mentality in the music world as you go up, and so our goal was to give anyone a platform of their own,” he said. Young said.

He said he saw the opportunity to give them a platform virtually. He said their goal was to give artists a platform to say whatever they want, aside from violence.

Built in Nashville began in August, during the COVID-19 pandemic that crippled the music industry.

“It was just cool because you know how to be in the house and not being able to share your art with anyone it’s difficult,” said artist Chuck iNDigo.

iNDigo was one of the artists featured in Live on Music Row. Young said he finds artists based on submissions, finding music and meeting new people.

“It feels good to be a part of this new renaissance that I think everyone sees coming,” iNDigo said.

As for the best part about Young, it’s the excitement behind it.

“Seeing how everyone reacts to this love is just pure excitement, whether they are just complimenting the artist, the video or the studio and so it’s like the sense of community that comes together is amazing. “Young said.

They are considering changing the name to Built in Nashville. Young mentioned that they hadn’t decided yet and were in between a few ideas. He said the long-term goal is to build a media business for independent artists.
