Jalandhar: A musical piece highlights the life, legacy of Lata Mangeshkar : The Tribune India

A musical piece, “Latangi – A complete ragam”, by Phulkari Women of Jalandhar (WOJ) was staged at KL Saigal Memorial Hall on Sunday to pay a worthy tribute to the life and legacy of the “Nightingale of India”. Lata Mangeshkar.

Conceptualized and written by Divya Mahajan, the play showcased Lata Mangeshkar’s struggles, dedication, meteoric rise to iconic status, and her indomitable spirit. It was promulgated by the Phulkari WOJ, which includes doctors, entrepreneurs, educators, businesswomen and housewives.

Phulkari WOJ President Simran Paintal said, “Phulkari WOJ is a unique initiative to empower women of substance in the city. From philanthropy to self-discovery, from environmental concern to entrepreneurial endeavours, our organization constantly strives to engage women and celebrate femininity. “Our production, ‘Latangi’, is a fusion of the talents and creativity of our members,” she said.

She further added that more such enriching, creative and entertaining events would be organized in the near future to provide WOJ members with a platform to revive, explore and showcase their talents.

Another Phulkari member, Divya Mahajan, who conceptualized and wrote this piece, said, “A voice that has tasted life’s bittersweet touches the soul. Lataji’s exemplary journey has inspired me to present snippets of her life to ignite the flame of dynamism in all women.

She said the play captivated the audience as the Phulkari WOJ team recreated Lata Mangeshkar’s golden age through drama, song and dance. Several distinguished guests of the city attended the event and enjoyed the evening.
